Upcoming Tests and Quizzes

  • Week 14 - Multiplication quiz - 60 seconds 1-12s

  • Week 15 or 16 - chapter 3 in a few weeks - probably week 15 or 16

Week 13 HW— January 9/10

first week back from winter break - we have a Monday session from 10-12 on 1/15. You don’t need to finish all your homework by then but having done most of it is how you’ll get the most out of this session.

Resource pages including answers are posted - 10:50 Friday am

Concepts: Direct variation word problems, compound and absolute value inequalitites introduction, introduction to systems of equations.

Day 1: Tuesday's HW

  • Prepare to resubmit your final exam on Wednesday. You will have 45 minutes to work on problems you missed. Use your study time this afternoon to review the types of problems you missed. You circled the types of problems you missed in class today and took notes on how to do similar problems. Your resubmittal is open notes/HW/CW and open book. So book mark sections in your textbook and make notes.

Days 2-4

Smart Studying

Correct any remaining errors on Final Exam using the solution key HERE This is after you have resubmitted your test to me during class for a second chance grading. Now you are correcting any remaining errors using the answer key and solutions. If you got 200/200 on the retake, you may skip this portion.) Do your corrections on a different piece of paper and staple that to the front of your test.

GREENIE… some students had time to start this in class. Finish at home

Complete the odd problems on the following pages. Answers to Greenie work are on a button above “Greene Answer Keys”

  • Page 5 - Solving Equations with Fractions review - odds

  • Page 6 - Solving Two step equations - use clearing decimals by multiplying by a factor of ten -odds

  • Note Greenie work is Math 8 for those of you who are going to integrated math programs in HS. For everyone else it is review as well as a preview of some geometry.

Textbook Homework

PH 5-5 Direct Variation

  • Read pg 263 Example 3. Do Check understanding for example 2 Writing an Equation for a Given Point

PH 3-5 Intro to Compound and Absolute Value Inequalities - we didn’t have time to do this in class so you’ll watch some of the videos below and read the section in the book.

Watch at least one resource video below and take notes.

Read section 3-5 examples, then do p. 164 #5, 20, 24, 34

PH 9-3 Review Multiplying Binomials and Trinomials

HW PH — Re-read section 9.3. You can decide whether you like the “swoopies” method to keep track of multiplying terms, FOIL (but that only works for binomials), or the horizontal method.

DO p. 470-1 #20, 33, 36, SQUARE 45

PH 3-6  CW Absolute Value in Inequalities

HW PH Read section 3-6 all examples. Do p. 167-169 Check understanding 1-4

BA 10.8 Systems of Equations

Go to Desmos’s graphing calculator

  • Type in the equations of two lines which intersect (so not parallel) lines.) This is called a system of equations. Where do these two lines intersect? That point of intersection is the SOLUTION to this system equations.

  • Now type in the equation of a line and a second equation that is actually the same line. Where do they intersect (or overlap)? How many solutions or points of intersection/overlapping do those lines — which are the same- have? That’s the solution to that system of equations

REVIEW VIDEOS - NOTES OPTIONAL, but pause and do practice problems with the instructor

 Review video:  similar figures

Review videos: unit rates & dimensional analysis

Week 14 HW—January 6/17 - Last week of first semester

INCOMPLETE - this includes all of our problems but resources aren’t posted yet

GREENIE CLASSWORK… we usually start this in class. Any leftovers, finish at home

Complete the following pages. Answers to Greenie work are on a button above “Greene Answer Keys”

  • Page 7 - Graphs & Functions: is an ordered pair a solution to a function? Using table

  • Page 8 Graphs & Functions: Coordinates and Quadrants and distance on horizontal or vertical lines

  • Page 9 Graphs and Functions: Interpreting Graphs

  • NEW page 34 Measurement and Geometry: Volume of Prisms #3, 7, 9, 11

Warm Up GCF Factoring (no HW) on PH pg 319-320

PH 3-5 Review Compound Inequalities & Absolute value

 HW PH Review 3.5 Examples. Then DO pg 164-5 #51, 54, 47, 59, 70, 71 SQUARE #44, 60, 68, 69

HW PH Also do pg 166 Check Pt Quiz #5-10

Absolute Value equations and inequalities can be confusing. Here’s a simple series of six videos that will walk you through how to solve these absolute value equations and inequality problems from Mario’s Math Tutoring. I recommend you take notes and pause the video to try subsequent example problems.

PH 3-6 Absolute Value in equations and inequalities (END of new CHP 3 material)

HW PH Review 3.6 Examples and DO pg. 169-170 # 7, 10, 16, 19, 23, 32, 52 SQUARE # 46, 49, 54, choose 55 or 56. PENTAGON read the algebraic proff on pg 173 and do 1-3

Chp 3 Review Start
